Geoff Hansen and Harvey Low, 55 Days in Korea: Letters home from Larry Low,
3 RAR, Townsville, 2023. (NQ History Series No. 10)

This book is about one of 3 RAR’s soldiers who served in the Korean War. Private Larry Low arrived
in Korea the day before his 20th birthday and sadly, was killed in action just 55 days later. He was
one of 198 members of 3 RAR who lost their lives in this conflict which is often referred to as the
“Forgotten War”. While the names of these men are remembered, most of their individual stories
have been lost over time.

Townsville In War and Peace 1942 - 1946.  75th Anniversary Edition.

This edition contains three new essays including one on Townsville's most decorated WWII soldier Bill MacIntosh, MC MM.  Having commited my post-military career to assist service men and women with the challenge of dealing with life after service in the ADF, I was particularly moved by the story of Bill MacIntosh.  Civilians and military alike will find it captivating, not to mention enlightening. Some, like many of those I have supported personally, will find comfort from this essay appreciating the difficulties he faced dealing with two parts of his life - the war which left it's mental and physical scars and his post- war years where he worked to help raise his family and spent significant effort and time helping and supporting others in the veteran community.  This essay will also help many appreciate the importance of ANZAC Day.

Photographs throughout the book bring life to the words and give readers glimpses of how things were in Townsville during the war.  Most importantly, this book contains first-hand accounts of people who lived through these times. Most adults from the war years have now passed on and those with childhood memories are in their senior years.  This book preserves their stories and is a most valuable contribution to Townsville's history.
