The geological framework of the highly mineralised Mount Isa- Cloncurry district is well known to be fiendishly complex and subject to varying interpretations. This book is the first attempt distil this complexity for a non-specialist audience. Laurie Hutton and Ian Withnall have worked for many years across the district for the Geological Survey of Queensland. They now summarise the sequence of events that built up this Mount Isa Inlier from 1870 to 1400 million years ago, possibly as part of the ancient Nuna Supercontinent. They also summarise the various mineralisation styles and major mines that have been encountered.

Other chapters describe the younger rocks that surround the Inlier, the landscapes and interesting features such as stromatolites, an asteroid impact structure and the Riversleigh fossils deposits. A major chapter accompanied by detailed maps suggests excursions where you can see the rocks, some historical mines, and the landscapes including Lawn Hill Gorge.
